EMI calculator - loan repayment & interest cost
EMI (equated monthly instalment) combines principal repayment and interest so you pay a steady amount each month (for standard amortising loans). The donut highlights how much of your total outgo is principal vs interest-often an eye-opener for tenure choice.

Frequently asked questions
Does EMI change with floating rates?
For floating-rate loans, EMI or tenure may adjust when the lender revises rates. This calculator assumes a constant rate for illustration.
What is amortisation?
It is the schedule of principal and interest components over time-early EMIs are often interest-heavy.
Can I prepay to reduce interest?
Often yes, subject to lender terms and any prepayment charges. Ask your lender for the net benefit.
What happens if I miss an EMI?
Expect a late fee and penal interest on the overdue amount, and a report to credit bureaus once the payment is over 30 days late-which can lower your credit score for years. If a tight month is coming, contact the lender before the due date to discuss options.
Is the EMI fixed for the entire loan tenure?
For fixed-rate loans, yes. For floating-rate loans, the lender typically adjusts the tenure (or sometimes the EMI) when benchmark rates move. This calculator assumes a constant rate for illustration.
